A Short Mean Free Path at z = 6 Favors Late and Rapid Reionization by Faint Galaxies

چکیده
Recent measurements of the ionizing photon mean free path ($\lambda_{912}^{\rm mfp}$) at $5 < z 6$ suggest that IGM was rapidly evolving those times. We use radiative transfer simulations to explore implications for reionization, with a focus on short value $\lambda_{912}^{\rm mfp} = 3.57^{+3.09}_{-2.14}$ cMpc/$h$ $z=6$. introduce model sub-resolution sinks based hydrodynamics small-scale clumping. argue rapid evolution in mfp}$ $z=5-6$, together constraints metagalactic background, favors late reionization process which neutral fraction evolved latter half. also mfp}(z=6)$ points faint galaxies as primary drivers reionizaton. Our preferred model, mfp}(z=6) 6.5$ Mpc/$h$, has midpoint $z= 7.1$ and ends 5.1$. It requires 3 photons per H atom complete LyC production efficiency $\log(f^{\rm eff}_{\rm esc} \xi_{\rm ion}/[\mathrm{erg}^{-1} \mathrm{Hz}]) 24.8$ $z>6$. Recovering low measured central may require an increase clumpiness beyond predictions from simulations, commensurate budget.

Excesses of faint galaxies around seven radio QSOs at 1.0< z <1.6 Clustering at high-z
We have conducted an optical study of the environments of seven radio-loud quasars at redshifts 1 < z < 1.6. In this paper we describe deep B and R band images obtained for fields of ∼6×6 arcmin around these quasars with 3σ limiting magnitudes of B ∼ 26 and R ∼ 25.4. We found an statistically significant excess of faint (B > 22.5 and R > 22.0) galaxies on scales of r <170′′ and r <35′′ around t...
متن کاملARE ULTRA-FAINT GALAXIES AT z= 6–8 RESPONSIBLE FOR COSMIC REIONIZATION? COMBINED CONSTRAINTS FROM THE HUBBLE FRONTIER FIELDS CLUSTERS AND PARALLELS
We use deep Hubble Space Telescope imaging of the Frontier Fields to accurately measure the galaxy rest-frame ultraviolet luminosity function (UV LF) in the redshift range z∼ 6–8. We combine observations in three lensing clusters, A2744, MACS 0416, and MACS 0717, and their associated parallelfields to select high-redshift dropout candidates. We use the latest lensing models to estimate the flu...
متن کاملDETECTING FAINT GALAXIES BY STACKING AT 24μm
We stack Spitzer 24μm images for ∼ 7000 galaxies with 0.1 ≤ z < 1 in the Chandra Deep Field South to probe the thermal dust emission in low-luminosity galaxies over this redshift range. Through stacking, we can detect mean 24μm fluxes that are more than an order of magnitude below the individual detection limit. We find that the correlations for low and moderate luminosity galaxies between the ...
متن کاملA sensitive search for CO emission from faint blue galaxies at z ∼ 0 . 5
We have obtained sensitive upper limits on the CO J=2-1 and CO J=3-2 emission lines for five faint blue galaxies with redshifts z ∼ 0.5 using the IRAM 30 m telescope. These observations would have been able to detect the luminous infrared galaxy IRAS F10214+4724 if it were located at this redshift and unlensed. However, they are not sensitive enough to detect the prototype starburst galaxy M82 ...
متن کاملFaint galaxies around quasars at z = 1 and gravitational lensing of distant objects
Very deep imaging data of three optically luminous radio-loud quasars with redshifts between z = 0.9 and z = 1.36 are presented. The data are complete for galaxies down to R = 26. There is no evidence for excess numbers of galaxies around the quasars; foreground galaxy clusters are excluded by the data aswell as clusters with richness classes greater than 1 associated with the quasars.Wefind cl...
